S I L V E R S H E E N O B S I D I A N Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that is produced when lava extruded from a volcano rapidly cools due to sudden contact with cool air or water. The beautiful silver sheen is a result of microscopic gas bubbles getting trapped in the glass as the lava rapidly solidifies. Archaeological evidence of obsidian usage in ancient times has been found all over the world as it was used to produce tools, mirrors, and weapons, including sharp blades and arrowheads. Because of this, obsidian is traditionally considered to be a fiercely protective stone and shields against all forms of negativity, including psychic attacks. Obsidian deposits are typically found in Mexico and the state of Oregon in the United States. It resonates with the root chakra, the energy center that governs our sense of security and foundation. It is also associated with the zodiac sign Sagittarius.
